Obituary

Gary Nelson, 75, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday morning, August 15. He was born on June 4, 1950 in Michigan. He was the son of the late James J. Nelson and Mary Layer Nelson. Gary attended Penns Grove High School and subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in Vietnam.

He was an amazing husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, going to antique shops, driving in the country roads of Lancaster and walking the battlefields in Gettysburg. His grandchildren meant the world to him and he loved watching them grow up. Gary would do anything for anyone. He was kindhearted and never expected anything in return.

Gary was married to the late Candida (Candy) Nelson for 35 years. In addition to his mother and father, Gary is preceded in death by his brother, Ricky Nelson (who is survived by his wife Zaida Nelson).

Gary is survived by his daughters, Calistena (Kelly) and Antonia (Toni) along with his grandchildren Josh Nelson and Jaylynn Weber. He is also survived by his brothers Jim Nelson (Helen), Mike Nelson, Steven Nelson (Donna), Kevin Nelson (Becky), David Nelson (Penny) and his sister Pam Nelson, 15 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. Gary was also expecting his first great grandson in December.

His memory will be celebrated on October 11th at 2:00 p.m. at the Pennsville VFW. All family and friends are welcome to attend. Please contact Kelly if you plan to attend.

Rest in peace Gary Nelson. You will forever be missed.

Will always remember Gary aka Dad making breakfast for Kelly and I when they were at Four Seasons Campground. I would always yell over at him, Dad what's for breakfast sometimes dinner time. Godforbid let Kelly cook! Thank you for always welcoming me over to eat and hang out.

I only knew Gary for about a year, however he definitely made a lasting impression on me and many others. I can honestly say that he was one co-worker I'll never forget. I believe he truly loved his job and the clients, and it showed. He was an extremely kind person. He took time out of his busy day to talk with each and every client and help out whenever he could. He will be missed by many. RIP and fly high Gary!

I am so grateful that I was able to meet Gary Kelly at the campground. Gary was a great guy, who loved his family to pieces. I sure have missed having him as my neighbor. Rest in peace Gary. Sending love to Kelly and family during this heartbreaking time.

We didn't know Gary for very long, he was out camping neighbor last year at Gettysburg Campground. We hit it off right away. Gary always talked about his family. He was very proud of his family and love them so much. The stories he used to tell us would leave us crying laughing. We were very fond of him and I hope that the family can find some kind of peace and comfort through all of this. Rest in Peace Gary.
