Rita Jane Vituj (91) of Port Charlotte, FL, died April 27th 2020 (11:01 pm) at Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte. She was born August 14th, 1928 in Meadville, PA to Marie (Burns) and Edward Gallagher of Linesville, PA. She was their 5th and youngest child. In her first year, her family moved to Cleveland, OH, where she was raised and schooled. Rita met her husband, Larry, on a blind date in December of 1951. They married in 1954 after he returned from Korea. In 1974, they moved to Port Charlotte, FL from Bedford, OH. Rita worked as a Unit Secretary at Medical Center in Punta Gorda for 3 years and then worked at Fawcett Memorial as the Operating Room Secretary for 11 years. She retired at 60, but worked part-time for several local doctors. Rita was an avid reader of mystery novels and loved crossword puzzles and movies (especially Braveheart, Ghost, and The Help). Rita was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Larry (in 2005); her parents; and her siblings- Mary Hardman and Robert Gallagher (both of P.C.), Edward Gallagher (of Big Bear, CA), and Eileen Hach (of Avon Lake, OH). Rita is survived by her 3 children James, Joan, and Jeffrey (all of P.C.), her grandchildren Matthew (of P.C.) and Monica (Thompson, of Englewood), and her great grandchildren, Milana, Logan, Liam, Dylan, and Ezekiel. There will be no viewing, but a mass will be said in her honor at St. Charles Borromeo at a later date. In lieu of flowers, she requests that you please hug the ones you love often, remember Rita as she was when you knew her, and perform a random act of kindness. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. "Live, Love, Laugh."
