Fabio Gomez Sr. of Red Bank, NJ passed away on September 17, 2020, at the age of 80. Fabio died peacefully at home surrounded by his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren. Fabio was born in Manizales, Colombia on March 21, 1940. Fabio and Clara met in Bogota while working at Banco Cafetero. They were happily married on December 17, 1966, and traveled to NYC for their honeymoon where they decided to stay and start their new life. Fabio was known as a devoted family man that was incredibly dedicated to his family. His successful 32-year international banking career with American Express Bank in New York and Santiago, Chile was attributed to his strong work ethic. Fabio was highly respected by his colleagues and often considered the resident expert on international banking practices. Fabio had a passion for reading and enjoyed fishing. Another favorite hobby of his was construction, from simple fix-it jobs to complex home renovations. He was also an avid soccer fan. Fabio is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Clara; five children, John Paul Gomez, Maria C. McCann, Fabio Gomez Jr., Dario Gomez Sr., and Daniel Edward Gomez; son in law, Andrew McCann; daughters-in-law Patricia Gomez, Rebecca Gomez, and Sarah Ladner-Gomez; two sisters, Sister Emma Gomez Jaramillo and Helena Gomez de Angel. Fabio will be greatly missed by his 12 grandchildren he adored: Valentina Patricia Gomez, Francesca Josephine Gomez, Emma Rose McCann, Matthew John McCann, Margaret Anne McCann, Owen Francis McCann, Nicholas Fabio Gomez, Christian Gomez, Gabriella Christine Gomez, Dario Gomez Jr., Charles Daniel Gomez, and Calvin Edward Gomez. His grandchildren enjoyed spending endless time with their grandfather, affectionately known as “Lico” to all who knew him well. Lico will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. A private memorial mass will be held at St. James Church in Red Bank at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Fabio’s memory to Diocese of Trenton, World Mission Sunday in support of Fabio’s sister, Sister Emma who continues her lifelong missionary work in South America.
